In ihren glänzenden Rüstungen ritten die Walküren durch die Lüfte, führten Schlachten an, wählten die Toten auf dem Schlachtfeld, erweckten sie mit einem Kuss zu neuem Seelenleben und brachten die Seelen der gefallenen Helden in die Walhalla, Odins Halle der Gefallenen und Erwählten. Ihre Anführerin war Brunhild.
Das Walkürenlied ist ein altnordisches eddisches Heldenlied, das vermutlich bereits im 11. Jahrhundert entstand.
